I would like to have both versions on the same computer used by the person building the schedule. She is reluctant to make the transition until she is confident in using EW6. She only has one office computer at her disposal. I'm have installed both on the presentation computer but it only runs packed schedules. If I install EW6 and the database converts will EW2009 still work? Will creating a new profile for EW6 somehow keep them independent?

It does not interfere with the operation of EW 2009. You just cannot have them both open at the same time.
