Easy worship locking up

EW seems to locking up fairly frequent after updating to 7.2.2.0 Is there a way to uninstall or rollback to a previous version?

EW7s last update was March of 2023 which pretty much proves that EW itself is not causing the issue. Microsoft updates WIndows at least once a month, and more than that quite often, as they did in November of this year. They also update MS Office (which contains PowerPoint) constantly. Common logic dictates that Windows or Office updates are statistically more likely to cause the issue that EW itself. All EW does is run PowerPoint in a container of some sort (I'm not a programmer). Unfortunately without knowing what hardware you are using, what version of PowerPoint, etc. it's difficult to offer and specific answers, but here are a few to try.

First, if you are creating the PowerPoints on a different computer than you are displaying them on verify that ALL of the font's used are on the EW projection system. I've seen this cause EW to appear to freeze while waiting for a response to a dialog box about the missing font that displays behind the EW control screen. Anytime EW appears to freeze use Alt-Tab to see if there are any error messages or dialog windows that need to be dealt with. Our Church had this issue a few years ago when the Church Secretary download and started using some new fonts on her computer without telling anybody so they could be installed on the EW computer.

Next, anytime you have a computer freeze and you have to shut it off via hard reset (power or reset button) you need to run sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from an elevated (or administrative) command prompt to check for and fix any file corruption that may have occurred, If you are using a spinning rust hard drive instead of an SSD you also need to run chkdsk /r from an elevated command prompt.

To open an elevated command prompt click on search and type CMD then right click on Run as Administrator and type one of the commands and hit enter. If it says that it found errors and corrected them, go to the next command and repeat. Do this until u=all of the commands come back with no errors, or all errors corrected.

Also see the support article General PowerPoint Troubleshooting.

I created the slides in PowerPoint and 'Import' them EW. They run fine under PowerPoint but freeze in EW. We present 'Song' lyrics and PowerPoint presentations within the same EW schedule. Only the PowerPoint slides freeze. This only began happening the last 3 weeks. We are running the same schedule.

Jim, You mention Presentations and PowerPoints. Is it locking up running PowerPoints or Presentations created in EW?

If it's PPT files, and it only started doing this in the last 3 weeks, then it's most likely an update with Windows or PPT. Nothing in EW has changed. I would recommend doing a repair on MS Office and see if that makes any difference. You can also contact support directly by going to www.easyworship.com/book and they can remote into the computer with you to take a look at it.

Still experiencing freezes with EW when running presentations. Running EW 7, build 7.4.1.9. Lyrics loaded through the 'Songs' tab operate fine. However, songs loaded via the 'Presentation' tab freeze. These presentations have been displayed fine for months, but in the last 3 weeks they do not display. I will consider rebuilding these songs tomorrow to see if I can fix but disappointed that I can't continue to present PowerPoint slides built by some of our talented folks. BTW, I tried to revert to EW build 7.1.4.2 using the link provided in an earlier message, but received the following error:

{

    "code": "not_found",

    "message": "Bucket with such name does not exist.",

    "status": 404

}

Hi Donal, thanks and good suggestions however for users that are on Macs not really an option we have users that don't like to have the whole EW7 suite and profile on their local PC and they struggle to keep the profile and databases all in sync. that is why we have been using the HyperV server till date with great pleasure as it works very smooth for the last years; the cloud is the future so this is where we are moving to

If all you need to use this for is to create a schedule in EW you can install EW on as many computers as needed to do that. If you don't have a site license you can still install it on other users computers and not register it. It will show a watermark on the screen that will not be embedded into the file so it will display properly on the projection system. You can then create a schedule, use the save schedule as to save it to a flash drive or cloud storage. Be sure to check the "Pack files when saving" box in the save dialog so all media so any backgrounds, images, audio, or video files are saved as well. When you get to the Church prior to service download or copy the schedule file to the projection computer and open it there. It should appear just as it was on the computer you used to create it.

You can use the "Check Schedule for Changes" option to import all of the media, presentations, songs, etc. to the projection computers EW Library/Resources so they will be available on that computer in the future. See the link below for more information on that.

hi Folks, did anyone got any good update on this? I'm running EW 7.2 and 7.3 in a VM locally on an hyper-V 2008R2 with an i3 CPU without any issues. When I now make an VM on Azure public with even more GB ram, higher virtual CPU, faster SSD for both 7.3/7.2 the GUI from EW7.x is frozen right at startup. Would anyone have any suggestion how to troubleshoot this? Even MSFT O365 teamhas been involved and they claim its poor designed SW as such a SW should not luck up just when you start it without starting to use it (like doing a broadcast/start live / make a schedule)  I'm trying to understand what kind of settings I can enable on the EW7.x SW to enable the debugging.

Our use case is simple: we have O365 free credits for Azure as part of our non-profit status. So why should we leave a PC in our church on  all the time and consume energy just for making a schedule.

If anyonone is interested in a more private review or interested how to get this O365 non-profit then feel free to send me a private message.

I plan to bring our backup laptop home this Sunday and will setup for a tech assist when I can determine my schedule..

Thanks @Dan Willard

I tried before with 7.1.4.0 and it didn't work
With the 7.1.4.2 you linked for me it has opened the database OK.

I'll use this for the service on Sunday - but I will keep the ticket open so we can investigate further.

David, reverting to build 7.1.4.2 will work even though you've updated to 7.2.2.0. Close EW and download and install 7.1.4.2 HERE and when you open it, if you get a message about sort order or language, just click OK and it should open up with all your data.

We would like for you to connect with our support soon on the 7.2.2.0 when you can to find out why it's locking up for you so we can fix it in the next update.

@Dan Willard - I have an Open Support Ticket, but as yet have had no response ☹

@David Adams @Robert Turner @Les Gilmer @Betsy Hundley

It would be great if you all could please contact EW support so they can run a debugger on your computer and get a bug report for our developers. With that report, they will be able to tell exactly what is causing the lock ups. You can call support during our business hours or schedule a time for a tech to call you by going to easyworship.com/book

I'm seeing this too. Regular crashing on preparation laptop, and also on Church Presentation PC.
So far affected 1 service.

@Les - how did you go about rolling back to V7.1.4 ?
I tried this, but the 7.2.2 install upgraded my database and it won't work with the older version.

I'm hoping you are not going to say that you took a backup before you upgraded - I've never had these sort of issues so sadly I didn't

Primary Unit

HP Laptop 15-cc1xx: i5-8250u, 12 gb ram, touch, SSD 250 gb, Intel UHD 620.

OS: Win X Home, 2004, 19041.508; EW 7.2.2 upg from 7.1.4?

Video: Extend HDMI out to dual VGA to large screen TVs

Backup/Reserve:

HP Laptop 15-da0xxx: i5-8250u, 8 gb ram, non-touch, SSD 250gb, Intel UHD 620.

OS and Video: same as above

Also tested on backup PC with same results as primary. One song did fail most often,

but on different slides. No consistency, except only noted on songs. Did not observe

on announcements, single slide, videos, etc.

Reverted to 7.1.4 on both systems and all OK.

4th submission!?! Hope this one takes.

We were having the same issue… It would happen whenever you would click on the media tab or presentations tab. I reverted to build 7.1.4.2 and things are working again at least for us.
